grain weevils and roaches

I just got a couple small lots of dubia and laterilis (sp?) roaches. Anyway, I threw some chicken feed in with each batch and pieces of cut up apple until I get my gut load. I realized after I threw it in that the chicken feed had little grain weevils in it. Will these cause a problem for my roaches? Or should I just leave them and hope the roaches eat them? LOL.

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Kelly

Guess I'll answer my own post in case anyone else was ever wondering...

A couple days later, no weevils to be seen and the roaches look fine. The weevils must have made a tasty snack...either that or they relocated to kitchen cabinets

Weevils

They are probably still around. They are a pest species that will get into any grains they can as well as other foods. Often times the only way to get rid of them is to get rid of all your cultures and start over. It is always easier to watch out for things and keep them out than to try and get rid of them. As you saw they were in your chicken feed so they can easily migrate. Its one of the reasons they are such pests.
