Removal of the spider egg sac on my car.

Hi, all-

My car broke down and has been sitting in front of my house for many months now. One day, I looked at it and realized that there was a gorgeous, fluorescent yellow crab spider on it, and it was guarding a yellow egg sac.

I did a little research on crab spiders, and I guess the reason I don't see my little friend anymore is because she died. ( The sac is still there though!

I loved looking at this spider's gorgeous color and I really want the spiderlings to survive! I also need to wash and sell my car body though. Is there a way for me to remove the sac without hurting the spiderlings?

Actually, it's been raining very heavily lately and I don't DEFINITELY know whether the sac is still viable. How do I know if it is or not? How will I know whether the babies have hatched or not? Will pictures help? How long are these crab spider egg sacs supposed to take before they hatch?

Thanks-
Brenda

Yes, pics would help. It would depend on where the sac is located. If you have a dark colored car the heat from the sun could have cooked them. Same could be said if it is on glass.

The removal would also depend on where it is located. Glass would be better then the body for my suggestion of using a razor blade. Gently of course.

The sac is viable...these guys lay ...guard and then die unless your feeding one like I am. Daves suggestion with the blade is a good one. You can also peel the sac off and it more than likely won't tear.
Your short growing season up there and cold winters will be no problem on the sacs survival, these things can be frozen solid and still hatch

Hmmm! Thanks for your replies. Luckily, my car is light colored and the sac was not laid on glass.

Where should I put the sac after I peel or scrape it off? (with a thin piece of plastic or paper as it's on the body! lol) Do you guys know what the strange purplish dot in the middle of the sac could be? It only showed up recently...

An orb weaver you have there not a crab as I thought
The 'spot' is probably a parasite of some sort from the looks of it .
the sac also seems kind of lame or not fully completed as it looks like she did not put enough webbing on it. I could be wrong there though
I would put it anywhere in a low area somewhat protected from the elements.

Aww, too bad about the sac. Well, I guess I will pinch the parasite with tweezers or something and then put the sac somewhere where it has a chance.

Thank you for your help, John!
