Trying to decide where to get a tegu...
IF I get a tegu, haha. Still gotta convince my mom.
Anyway. After months of researching I have narrowed my choice down to two... Varnyard Herps and Agama International. (RIP Bert) Many others weren't selected either because I felt they were shady or they never answered my emails.
I want an Argentine Black and White. Size isn't really an issue- Varnyard's giants are cool but not 300 dollars worth of cool to me anyway. Tameness on the other hand, is a big one for me. I want a 'cuddly' lizard!
I've read lots about each, including on the BOI here. I believe I could get a great, healthy tegu from either one.
Varnyard says his are the tamest, and he has a good reputation.
Agama Int. also has a good reputation, but has tegus for much cheaper. I could get one with a tail nip for 50 bucks, or a 'flawless' one for 100.
Are Varnyard's tegus significantly more tame/tameable compared to Agama Int's to justify paying 50-100 more for them? I could easily afford it, but do I NEED to pay that much more? Is there that much of a difference?
It reminds me of the experiments in Russia to tame silver foxes. The true test of genetic tameness is that these foxes don't get much interaction with humans, yet they're STILL very friendly and seek human contact.
So yeah. I'm looking for personal experiences with tegus from either stock, preferably from people who have gotten them from both. Has anyone noticed significant differences in how tame they are? Or compared to tegus from other stocks?
Thanks!
