a bit confused on Schneider's tank size

I've been looking up info on Schneider's skinks and am confused on the tank size. Some sites say a 20g is good. Some say 20g is the minimum size. Some say 30g-40g. I'd love to get one, but have a 20g and no room for a bigger tank.

I assume you mean a 20 gallon high (24x12x16) That is fine for a single Schneider's skink. Of course bigger is almost always better but it will be fine in a 20 gallon. If you get creative you can actually create a multilevel habitat for him which will increase his useable floor space considerably. It can also make use of the wasted extra height that a predominantly ground dwelling animal generally can not utilize.

Probably better. The added floor space would be more ideal than the shorter-yet-taller 20g high.

IMHO, a 20g long is a perfect size for a single Schneider's skink. However, if you were getting more than one, a 40-breeder (apprx 36 x 18 x 16tall") would be ideal.

Yes, a 20 long will be fine for a single Schneider's skink.

thanks for the info.

looks like i'll be getting a fire skink since we won't be attending the mississauga expo in june (will be too crowded for a stroller) and i found a place that sells them for a good price. it'll be a great (late) mother's day present
