Our Savannah Monitors - year two

Littlefoot and Cera are getting big, yet remain fit and athletic.

Folks, this is what a Varanus exanthematicus is supposed to look like, not a blob that waddles. Enjoy.

They have been eating rodents since I got them, further proving that rodents do not make lizards fat, with the proper setup, their metabolism processes the food correctly.

The crunchy sounds are from the bite force crushing skull bone, These animals have a vice like bite.

If the sounds of bone crushing and seeing dismembered rats grosses you out, don't click play.

Upgraded to Metal halide lighting... the lizards love it, very bright and tons ov UVA/UVB

For comparison, the light output of 4 different lamp types.

In this photo, the camera was focused on the cat, so the auto iris did not close, giving a better idea of just how bright it really is in there.

Extended tripods are the norm here. always curious about what is going on.

In the end, the metal halide lamps are a bargain, they outlast the normal halogen lights quadruple before they go bad, and with electronic ballasts they are super efficient and save on the electric bill.

And thank you...
