Beautiful but dead :(

Found this guy tonight... Too bad that he was dead when we found him... He did not have any obvious injuries... This is a truly beautiful snake and it is the first one of these I have ever seen in the wild... I would have loved to have been able to have a live capture here and be able to see what kind of temperament he had...

Date: 6/30/2006
ID: Broad-banded water snake (Nerodia fasciata confluens)
Length: 11.75 inches
Sex: Male
Mid-body: 25
Ventrals: 133
Subcaudals: 83
Anal Plate: Single
Scale Texture: Strongly Keeled
Location: (Nacogdoches County, Texas) At end of Lambert St off of CR 553 where it dead ends into Lake Sam Rayburn...
Habitat: Found in the water next to the bank... Wooded area with extensive aquatic vegetation close to shore...

Most of the water snakes I have come across don't play possum, they play "I'm gonna bite you".
