Albino marker?

I was reading a classified on "another" site, and they put this....

BONUS- Purchase the Arabesque and I will pair him up with a FREE 04' Virgin 66% HET Albino female with "Albino markers"....white splotchy scales. Imagine creating your very own Albino Arabesques THIS YEAR!!!!!

What are they saying about an Albino marker? I have never heard of that as far as a marker goes. I have heard the theory about the eyes at the top being lighter color than the surrounding skin / scales, but I have never heard of a "splotchy skin" being a marker for anything... am I off base with this? Please, feel free to educate me...

Sean,
Basically it's a difference in the eyes, and has nothing to do with "white splotchy scales". Jeff Ronne, "The Boaphile", is the one who put this out there. He claims to be able to pick the actual hets from a litter of possibles. He has an article wrote out on another forum about this, and how he came to notice this so called "marker".

I have read it many times, and I'll get the link for you if you want to read it too. But I don't know about the weight it holds. I do know that there are those who have used the term ever since he published that thread, and in a pretty similar manor as you provided above. Seems to be the new market ploy these days.

Eric,
I had originally posted a copy of the article on Boaddictions, but of course it was lost. I doubt that they will be restoring the old posts, since they are now using vBulletin and I can't imagine them being able to restore from phpBB.

I have since posted it on www.BoaGenetics.com in the Genetics sub-forum.

The "marker" that I was talking about, the guy that posted the ad sent me a pic of the splotches he was talking about... in the pic, it is basically a lightening / whitening of some of the scales in the part of the snake that would be dark. It had nothing to do with the eyes, as I was already familiar with that one because I had a pretty in depth conversation with Tim K at the Hamburg PA show. I had just not heard of the scales having anything to do with it. He said there is a thread in one of the other forums talking about scale coloration, so I will take a look there... If I find anything on it, I will provide links..

Sean,
I've never heard of that one.
I would be very interested in hearing what they have to say.
Have they done breeding trials to prove the theory?

Thanks,

Please do. I would be interested in reading it. Whether it holds water or not, just like to see how people think at times.

Just seems to me, that if there is a marker, than how can it be a recessive trait? It would be expressing itself as a hetero, which makes it a form of dominance. At least in My way of thinking. LOL

Eric, find the thread Mike mentioned? If not here's the one Jeff Ronne posted at RTB.......
How to pick out a Het albino

seems pretty convincing to me
so the top part of the eye,or above the hemispheric line of the eye is much lighter than the scales around the eye .
Almost a light faded blue grey on some
but mostly just substanially lighter top part of the eye should prove out 100 het albino.
i would love to try it
hey sean post the picks of your hets so we can study them

Like Jeff had said in his article / write-up about the hets in Albinos... he put out there a pretty compelling question... if it is proven that the Hets do have markers that you would be able to tell the hets from the non-hets, wouldn't that make them an "incomplete co-dominant".... I'm not going to go as far as to say that, because I don't know if it has been proven with 100% accuracy that the hets are the only ones to have this marker, or that ALL hets have this marker. I do have the photo that I recieved of the "het" boa that I was asking about, so when I get to work tomorrow, I will post the pics.
