Greater Sirens are one of the easiest amphibians to keep. They gulp air to aid in respiration, thus they can tolerate low dissolved oxygen. Sirens eat a wide array of foods, like dogfood and chopped meats, therefore they are inexpensive to feed. They can also endure dormancy, high and low temperatures, and some crowding, so you can go on long vacations without worry. These large, long-lived salamanders can be trained to eat from the hand and make interesting pets and wildlife display animals. I've seen sirens for sale in pet stores and online for $30-50 each.
