Anyone else keep blotched lizards? Looking for more. Genus Uta .
Picked up some at a reptile show and I must say they make very interesting little captives. They settled in immediately and didn't to flee or hide all day like some other lizards will. they just got started establishing territories and doing all their fascinating lizard behavior. I am unsure of the sexes of mine and I am almost sure they are Uta stansburiana, location is also a mystery. I've been reading online that these have an interesting rock, paper, scissor breeding strategy meaning that in the same species you get three distinct forms of males. Each distinct type of male has a fitness advantage one type and a fitness disadvantage over the other.
I realize these lizards are extremely common in the southwest which would probably account for the lack of attention, but I actually would like to obtain some more and preferably some that are identified with a species or location.
Apparently they are predated heavily and to compensate are quite prolific. I'm curious to see them reproduce and captivity, I can only imagine how small the neonates are.
Anyone have any good leads on where I can get some?
