Cops Nab Glen Burnie Golf Gator

Talk about a water hazard!

Anne Arundel County Police admit they were skeptical when somebody called to report an alligator lurking in a pond at the Golf Center in Glen Burnie, but a couple of days after they set up traps in the water, police say they came up with a baby gator nearly two feet long.

Police say they've consulted with experts in Florida, who tell them it's likely that the gator was a pet that was released into the pond. And they say it's unlikely the reptile would have been able to survive a Maryland winter.

The gator has been sent to a zoo in Frederick while police work to identify the owner.

Anne Arundel County Police Release:

On Friday May 30, 2008 Animal Control received a call that a citizen observed an alligator in the pond at the Golf Center located at 1501 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. Initially Animal Control Officer Patricia Ridge responded to the scene but was unable to locate the alligator. Over the next several days Animal Control set up traps in an attempt to safely capture the alligator.

On Wednesday June 4, 2008 Animal Control Officer Glenn Johnson responded to the park in effort to capture the alligator. With the use of a fishing rod Officer Johnson was able to capture the two-foot alligator and transport it safely to Animal Control.
