Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Is this breeding setup ok?
Hi,
I am fairly new to beardies. I bought a pair from a petshop a few days ago.
They are showing breeding behavior now- to my surprise the smaller darker animal turned out to be the male. Are smaller males sometimes unable to physically complete their duties? The plastic shoe box filled with dirt is my intended egg laying container, but I wasn't sure if this was adequate. Any advice is appreciated. Also I take them outside for their UVB, but I will be getting a Zoomed 5.0 this winter. Thanks.

Alright- I may have two females. I've been exploring other threads and found one where someone observed two females mating. I can't find hemipenal bulges on the little "male" for the life of me and the larger female is not displaying any hand waving.
I would still appreciate any advice on my setup. From reading other posts I have found that my egg laying site should probably be a sloping mound about twelve inches high.
I guess my plan will probably be to sell the smaller, darker female to my boyfriend (who is absolutely in love with her) and then find a large colorful male for future breeding. I've read that babies eat vast quantities of food and that breeding the normal phase is not exactly economically practical. Is this your experience?
THANKS- please reply!

2 suggestions...
1. Make your egg laying box more private....like a container that has a lid and an opening on the side. Some beardies may be reluctant to lay out in the open like that.
2. I noticed that your egg laying box is directly under a heat lamp. You may want to check the temps there because if she lays when you're not home they could dry out under the lamp.
Good luck,

1) If you bought from a pet shop, how do you know they aren't related?
2) Smaller males can breed, but probably shouldn't as we have weak genetics in U.S. dragons as it is (due to Australia banning exportation, we now are limited to the descendents of European imports)

Thanks everyone- I will definitely make a more private nesting box. I will probably go back to the store and try to get the phone # of the guy who raised them. All the pet store could tell me was that they are two years old and very friendly.
