"I would honestly LOVE to discuss this with Chris! How can I get a hold of her?"

I would be glad to pass your information to her, but I should warn you, she is a bit reclussive, and as I mentioned she is still going to kill me for my bio on her earlier. But, I will do as I said and I will pass it on for you.

Marcia, as an ordained minister I hope you will reread this statement and realize what you are saying here. We don't make improvements... we selectively breed them to "create" what we find appealing.

or in marcias case she does not inbreed or line breed gene so that last comment does not hold true with marcia

Selectively breeding does not mean that you are line or in-breeding...it means that you are choosing specific animals for whatever reason and breeding them to each other.....as opposed to just having a bunch of random animals together that breed with whomever they choose...so that comment actually does hold true for Marcia.

while I do not think it unethical to breed animals with some minor defects (such as genetic tail kinks), that does not mean that I condone it. There are certain minor defects that do not cause the animals any negative affects that I would not see unethical to breed, but would not want propagated.
ok so its okay to breed animals with kinked tails when it is a [b]known[/B inheritable defect wait but them you confdre me here. its ok to breed them yet

New here. This thread has been a really interesting read and actually inspired me to post something, although now I can see what I wanted to say has already been posted by a few others. I pretty much agree with what StinaUIUC said in the two quotes below.

As far as what's attractive in a leopard gecko and what isn't, The market will always be the one to decide.

I don't think it is unethical because it technically does them no harm...however I do not personally think that if it is known to be genetic that they should be bred, because I see it as an undesireable trait (and I know many others including yourself do as well). When I said propagated I just meant bred on purpose...I couldn't think of a better word...lol

the ethics of breeding genetic defects

Some of you who know me know that in my retirement, I plan to move to a small farm and raise fainting goats. There are breeders who raise goats who have a genetic problem, which causes them to faint easily. You can jump up and go "RAHR" and bam - there will be goats laying on their side - only to wake up a few seconds later with no harm done.

(I know it's sick, but that's going to be my only entertainment in retirement).

We breed goats that faint - guinnie (sp) pigs that have no hair - dogs that can't have babies without having c-sections - why can't we raise dwarf "Minie-lee" geckos?

Again - good topic.

I want my fainting goat!!
