haha...yeah no kidding.....I'm trying to be real careful here....lol Chad, technically it is a deformity regardless whether the gecko can live a normal life or not...any anatomical abnormality is a deformity...however some are detrimental to health...others aren't.

what do you mean? I'm just saying that whether it is ok to breed it or not has nothing ot do with whether it is a deformity or not (I guess depending on who you are...)...it IS a deformity, like I said...any anatomical abnormality is a deformity regardless of whether it is harmful or not.

no thats a mutation not a deformity. the gene resposible for the shape of the tail, assuming its genetic, could have a genetic mutation that made it look more like a knob tailed gecko than a leopard gecko or it could be a malformed tail.

only breeding will prove that out. breeding it to a normal and than breeding the offspring back to the mother/father would prove weather or not its genetic.

oh. so what was the conclusion of that discussion?

it would be a mutation AND a deformity...whether it is genetic or not does not change that it is a deformity. A deformity is ANY physical malformation....not all deformities are genetic...but any abnormal physical trait caused by genetics is a deformity as well as a mutation.

well for the sake of keeping those two things seperate (genetic deformities and nongenetic deformities, as you put it) im gonna call genetic deformities "mutations" and nongenetic ones "deformities".. if thats cool with you.
