What I meant by this was that I was reading a thread, and someone had said they couldn't give trader rating points, so someone else (like a mod) did it for them.

That is what I meant......if someone made a case for rating points in the BOI, and a moderator felt compelled to give points, then that was an option. Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought that is what the incident was.

So I guess the question is this....If someone is praising (or disapproving) of someone in the BOI, could there be a vote or decision amongst moderators to award trader rating points?

Well, that is a nice idea, but do you have ANY idea what a pain in the rear that would be for the mods? And then, the complaining about "Why did you let him do it but not me??" It's not faaaaiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

I think that would just open a whole new and messier can of worms, really.

I'm not sure what the incident you are referring to was (if anybody would like to share the full story, or provide a link, I'd like to know)...but in response to the question of moderators awarding trader points, IMO, the answer is no. Anybody could claim they had a transaction with a member and request a trader rating be entered on their behalf. Sure, it would be nice if everybody I sold to (or bought from) could add to my rating, but it wouldn't outweigh the risk of unverified accounts adding to (or subtracting from) anybody's ratings. The paid requirement allows a degree of identity confirmation, and helps cut down on abuses. The role of the moderators can be varied, but asking them to sit as judge/jury on a matter (circumventing the SOP of the site) solely for the purpose of saving somebody $25 is ludicrous. As has been pointed out, it would create far more headaches than somebody's trader rating point is worth. And what would be considered acceptable criteria??? Amount of money exchanged? Inability to pay the $25 Post count? Length of membership? Certainly any item selected could be argued as applicable...or not.

I guess my last post made it sound like I was advocating for a system I was describing. By no means do I think that would work, or even be feasible. I would love to provide the link to where I read it, but it was so long ago, I wouldn't even know where to begin searching for the thread.

But I DO distinctly remember reading someone was having trouble leaving a rating, so another contributing member opted to do it for them.

Sorry if I caused any confusion or accidentally opened a new can of worms. I fully support the paid membership, and the "perks" entitled to those members. The moderators are doing a great job, and they don't need any more police, jury and judge responsibilities.

It's been a long day, thanks for bearing with me.

Just for the record, this practice is not really encouraged here, and would actually be strongly DISCOURAGED. There is no official policy against it, but I would hope that most people would be perceptive enough to realize that this could be a problematical practice here. No the least of the problems would be the fact that it would APPEAR to be abusive or bogus to a casual observer.

Just because you have a personality conflict with a couple of people does NOT mean "a holes have the run of this place." I am sure there are a few people that would use that term to describe you. Unless of course, you really do believe that all of the mods and contributors, and regulars posters to this site are "a holes." Because you just painted everyone here with a very broad brush.
