What is the Legality of all Snapping Turtle species in New York?

Does anyone one know the legality of Common Snapping Turtles, Florida Snapping Turtles, Mexican Snapping Turtles, South American Snapping Turtles, Alligator Snapping Turtles, and Hybrid Snapping Turtles in the state of New York? Since the internet has a million different answers that aren't even clear, I'm hoping you guys can give me the correct answer cause I really want to own one of these amazing reptiles.

The most authoritative answer would likely come from NY DEC. Have you inquired with them? Doing so in writing would be advisable for any future legal situations.

A knowledgable second-hand source would be NYTTS:

NY State sure doesn't make the legislation easy to find. It looks like only Chelydra serpentina is regulated, so all other species of snapper are either unregulated or covered under some other law that I couldn't find.

Basically all native species are regulated in New York State and illegal to possess with proper permits or licenses. The common Snapping turtle can be taken during a designated hunting season as a game species. This does not cover keeping it at a pet or for display. The following link may help: https://www.dec.ny.gov/regs/2494.html
