Exclamation Everyone Read! I need all help I can get!

Any and All HELP please! This morning I received a juvenile nile monitor from a friend of mine via overnight mail. The problem is, the idiot forgot any heat packs and when I got th monitor this morning, his body was freezing, he was pretty motionless, etc... (It's around 35 degrees). Here we are several hours later, I have tried lots of stuff, I let him sit at room temp for a while, then just a heat pad and then gradually have been raising temps. I am about to try a warm bath for him. His only issue now is that he is unable to move his 2 rear legs, they are stretched and appear as though they are stuck to the side of his tail, but they are not. He is also swinging his head, neck and upper body attempting to move. He seems extremely frustrated with not being able to walk normally. WHAT SHOULD I DO? THIS LOOKS HEARTBREAKING. ANYBODY HAVE A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE ONE TIME OR ANOTHER? PLEASE EVERYONE, TELL ME YOU TRUE HONEST OPINIONS. IT MEANS A LOT TO ME. RIGHT NOW HE IS IN A 40 BREEDER WITH MULCH AND COCO FIBER, A HIDE, 10.0 UVB TUBE, 100 WATT BASKING BULB, LARGE AND SMALL WATER DISHES. A FEW CRICKETS AND A HANGING PLANT. THANKS AGAIN.

I would Keep him warm, firstly, and hydrate him too. This sucks, i hope you get the help you need to get him better. Try calling a local Herp vet too. They really may be able to help you FAR better than an online forum, in the mean time. Forums are great for tossing ideas off of one another, but a real herp vet will be able to help you in the best way possible!

Hi, thanks for already making a comment! Yes, of course I have contacted a reputable herp vet near me. I was sure to send several emails to my regular vets personal email as soon as I discovered what I had! He has never been wrong before with his predictions and has always had a 100% success rate with treatment as far as any of my animals go for many years and years. I pray he is right this time as well... He basically said that clearly somebody messed up by sending the lizard in the cold weather we have here, especially with zero heatpacks. He asked if the box was cramped and had any damage. This was after I had asked if he thought maybe the monitor had suffered a broken back or legs. I told him that the box came in a perfect square shape, it had some air holes, tape, lots of newspaper and the lizard was also inside of a "kritter keeper" kind of container within. Unfortunately he had no padding which I do not understand but the vet still said he believes that the animal would have had to be slammed again and again and the box would even have marks if it was as bad as a broken limb. However, he said freezing is no joke and extremely dangerous. The fact that the animal itself was not/has not died since shipping, he said is a sign on the right track. He believes that he may get better another day or towo but to keep doing what I have been in terms of warming him up. I figured he would say this and I believe him. There is not much a herp vet could do in this instance to treat a lizard who had been freezing overnight... Know what I mean!? I am just in such Shock! I am sure you can imagine. I am just praying for the best. I have never seen this before after receiving so much over several years. I have unfortunately had people ship things to me in much colder weather and even those never arrived in this bad a condition! The box was only in transit a total of about 16 hours in temps of about 30-45 and across only 5 states! I don't know what went wrong, I am dying(emotionally).... Keep 'em coming..................................... Thank You

So sorry to hear that, obviously you were doing all you could and then some.

It's amazing how quickly we get invested in critter's welfare isn't it - even though you just got him I'm sure you feel terrible right now. My sympathies.
