Gut-Loading

When feeding a Boa live prey... is there any value in Gut-Loading the prey first?

I've used this theory many times when using insects or fish as food, but never really considered doing it with mice or rats when feeding larger reptiles.

I have the opportunity to purchase locally bred mice/rats which I could get live and then gut-load if I choose. If you feel there is any benefit, what do you believe I should gut-load the mouse/rat with?

...just being curious...

I don't see any need to gut-load. If the rat/mouse is fed a good quality diet, the snake is going to get all it needs as far as nutrition goes. I have looked into giving snakes thing like garlic (for worm, RI infections etc) and vitamin C (too boost imune system) but reptiles immune systems are different and just because it is good for us doesn't mean it is good for them, in fact, some cases it can be toxic to them.
