IMHO....
.....I would suggest feeding him as much as he will eat (before loosing his interest) each day if he is only a hatchling. He's got a lot of growing to do, and as long as you have your temps correct, he will utilize all those calories you're giving him. As he gets older, you can moderate your feeding schedule. Don't forget to dust your crickets a couple times a week too! As far as the pinkies are concerned, I would stick with ones that are only as long as the hatchling's head is wide at the widest point just to be safe. Besides, alot of small food items is much less stressful for his digestive system than one or two big items.
I would suggest you have somoene take care of him if you have to leave home for any length of time. Alot could happen in the time you're gone (blown heat bulb, water bowl spillage, etc)
