yellow fungus in uromastyx

Does anyone have any good info on yellow fungus in uros. I think a couple of our uros might have the start of it. Ive read you can soak them in dilute betadine and put lamisil on it or give oral iatrocolozole, Im not sure which route would be best. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Itraconazole is usually the best route since you may be dealing with internal fungus as well as external fungus. The important thing to do is to start treating it asap. for fungus, ive taken cotton swabs and "painted" the infected areas on the skin with betadine. If you want to bathe them, try using a diluted nolvasan solution, although it i believe the betadine painting method works better. Either way you need to take them to the vet to the meds so see what they say as well with this kind of situation. They may want to biopsy it too to confirm that it actually is yellow fungus. Fungus is something that is still difficult to treat in reptiles, though every year they seem to be uncovering more and more info about the different types and how to treat them.

I wasn't too excited about having to bathe them so your alternate method sounds good. I am actually in the middle of my third year of vet school and unfortunately even at our school there aren't any reptile specialists. Im going to start the betadine and Itraconazole, and if no signs of improvment do a biopsy and try to find out exactly what's going on. I hate to put them through the stress of a biopsy when they have been doing so well... Thanks for your help.
