Thanks, yeah the cage is made by animal plastics (pic included, mine is white)

I'm at work, but when I get home I'll get all the names of the different antibiotics. He's also about 6 ft long and he's on paper towels right now, normally I use newspaper, but he gets in the water so much that paper towels have been working better.

I'm actually ordering some new cages right now, so he'll be put in a normal sized cage soon.

PVC caging is fantastic and i'm glad thats what your using.

If he is getting into the water bowl frequently there is a chance that he may have mites even if you havent seen them yet. (not saying you don't know what to look for i'm just saying that theres a chance)

That being said I have plenty of "bowl tippers" that are clean as a whistle yet feel the need to make my life difficult.

I'm curious to see what antibiotics they gave you when you get home let me know

Yes I'll definately post the names of them, they told me, but I can't remember them off hand. The vet's didn't see any, but he's got a check up in 2 weeks so I'm going to have them check him there, they also recommended frequent soaking so I'm glad that you mentioned that. He's large enough that I just put him in the bath tub and let him hang out.

I agree with the good Doctor completely.

I'll add to the soaking issue. Clean the water bowl often if they soak in it, because it's contaminated once they get into it. Check in the bowl for little black specs, like pepper. Prolonged soaking will kill a lot of the mites, and they'll fall off into the bowl.

Ok so here's what I'm putting on him. First Maxi/Guard Oral Cleansing Gel, the Silver Sulfadiazine Cream. His injections are Ceftazidime (.5ml) and Amikacin (.04ml).

They showed me how to give the injections and I feel comfortable giving them to him, my boyfriend is coming over those days to help me since he's large enough it's awkard to do with only 1 person.

Cool. I was hoping you wouldn't say Baytril. LOL

Hopefully he'll be on his way to recovery. You'd be surprised how much "apparent gratitude" you'll receive from a reptile that needed your help and got it.

Yeah, he's not happy about the treatment now, but he's being well behaved and not at all aggressive.

I agree with all the medication but what did they tell you to use the silver sulfadiazine cream for? its pricey and typically used for burns or sores of the such. Maybe i missed something

The Ceftazidime with Amikacin will provide a nice BS antibiotic. It seems like they knew what they were doing

LOL thats exactly why I asked earlier, I didn't wanna jinx it so I figured I'd wait til she posted.

I used to soak all my monitors and Tegu's in the tub they love it and give's them time to run around and enjoy themselves. TBH soaking and treating him will do wonders just make sure his cage is'nt too humid and he gets a chance to dry out his mouth and such between treatment and soaks as it wont heal with out drying.

Ya I completely agree its always hard to give an injection alone even on a small snake I would recommend having another hand on him.

Glad all went well tho sorry you had to go thru this mess, but you will be that much better prepared when something like this in the future pops up (hopefully it won't of course) Its just nice to be well rounded

Definately, oh and about the eating, the guy didn't tell me the last time he fed and now won't respond to me. While he's on the antibiotics the vet said it'll strain his kidneys and it's best to not feed him till he's all better. He's got good weight right now, 7.8 lbs at the vet.

My Monitor loves to play in the tub, she's a little roughneck, it's her cage that I stole for him. I try to use rack systems to save space, but he's going in a bigger cage since he's got a nose rubbing issue, I want to keep him happy.

And I agree I like to be well rounded, trying to look at the bright side about this.

As for the silver sulfadiazine cream, it's mostly for his nose rub, it's pretty bad and to try to bring done some of the swelling around his gums.

Oh alright that makes sense. Just didnt know they used silver sulfadiazine orally with reptiles, makes perfect sense for the nose.

oh and my mistake its not that expensive

To remain sane you gotta look at the bright side of these situations
