Question Regarding What Constitutes As a True Boa

What are considered as true boas rather than just from their common names?

Well, 'true boa' is just another common name.

The family Boidae are all the species of boas. The subfamily Boinae are called the 'true boas', though that doesn't imply that the other subfamilies in Boidae aren't boas.

Since species' common names change over time and are not universally used in identical ways, best bet is to look up what (sub)family the species you're concerned about is currently in.

Probably meens the boas with Latin name of boa, ie boa constrictor, boa imperata, rather dumeril boas, sand boas, Rosie boas and rubber boas, none have a Latin name of boa, all give birth to live young, but distinctively different than boas in general
