Breeding Guinea Pigs...

We started breeding Guinea Pigs a few months ago, and got our first litter last week. Unfortunately, the litter consisted of three stillborns - no live piggies.

The only thing I can think happened is there was too much stress on the mom... She is housed with another female and one male.

Any suggestions, other than separating the the preggo mom next time, and getting her somewhere quiet?

I guess lots of extra veggies can't hurt. Other than that, none of my guinea pig books say to do anything special. I had one pregnant pig who was housed with a female and was handled a bit and she did fine. It might just have been a fluke. She didn't get an opportunity to mate with the male again after she gave birth did she? They go into heat right afterwards and it's not good for them to have two litters so close together. Better luck next time!

I always take my girls out to dinner first and it works like a charm. Just kidding of course but Id say its just a first litter thing. Im sure shell have better luck on the next batch.
