Albany,OR - Police capture albino burmese

Albany police got a call Tuesday afternoon about a snake.

And not just any snake. The caller said it was “huge and yellow.”

The 8-to-9-foot albino python was discovered on the steps of an apartment complex in the 600 block of Ferry Street S.W.

Community Service Officer Gerry Morris with the help of others was able to get the snake into a kennel in the back of his police vehicle.

He said they didn’t measure the snake, “but it’s good size.”

The snake spent the night inside the kennel at the police department. This morning, the python was resting on a blanket. A lamp was set up for warmth and a water dish was placed inside the cage.

Police today located the owner of the snake and returned it. The animal had escaped from an apartment at the same complex where it was found Tuesday, but no one noticed it was missing until this morning, police said.

The python was the same snake police came across last year while conducting a drug search at a house on Ferry Street, about a block from where the python was found Tuesday. During that search, investigators looked in the snake’s tank but didn’t find anything drug-related.
