Hello from a curious natural history collection curator!
Hi! I somehow stumbled upon this fantastic place after doing a quick search for zebra finch eggs-- after a short moment of browsing a few topics, I decided that I wanted to stay forever!
I suppose I may not fit in just right, as I am just a curator of a natural history collection at a museum. I do love and care for the collection as if it were my own. I personally cannot afford the space to have a collection in my small home, and so I have essentially adopted the institution's specimens and care deeply for their preservation as if they were my own.
Specimen preservation is very dear to me, as it is a very meticulous process whether it be taxidermy mounts, study skins, or the elusive skeletal articulation. It's just nice to be able to represent an animal in a dignified way where it can be appreciated by past and future guests of the museum.
Unfortunately our collection does not accept wet specimens due to the higher frequency of maintenance, so I am slowly learning (ie: quite often I find myself on the struggle bus) the process of clearing/staining on my own at home as a work-related hobby :)
Sometimes I tend to ramble-- so hello! I hope to learn many interesting things from you all and I look forward to seeing your incredible animals!
