UTH Heating Question?

Hello all,

I've been pondering this question for quite some time now. I know that many people use UTH's for their leos. Temps should be in the high 70's to low 80's on the cool side and high 80's almost 90's on the hot side. My question is how much should the temperature be on the actual floor?

For example, I have a 40 breeder tank where I house 1.3 adult leos. One side has a UTH where the air reads 82 just 6in. above the floor but the floor reads 108. What is more important, air temperature or floor temperature. And how hot is too hot for the floor?

Thanks in advance for the replies,

Greg Aparicio

Greg, you want all of your temperature readings to be from the substrate or the floor. That is where your gecko is at so that is where you check the temps. The best thing to use is an indoor/ outdoor thermometer. One with a probe on it is the only way to go. Attach the probe to the floor of the tank and you should be good.

I'll have to lower the thermostat then.

Thanks.
