Tail Chewing

I have an 18-year-old female California King Snake who has started chewing on her tail. So far today I have had to pull her tail out of her mouth three times, once where she had almost three inches of it down her throat. Any suggestions on what I should do about this?

The appetites on most of my snakes kicked into high gear over the last month, so maybe this is a food response?

I would try wiping her tail with something that smells bad but that won't hurt her, like white vinegar.
