Praying Mantis

My co-worker caught me a Praying Mantis today. She is absolutley beautiful! She has two black spots on her claws or arms. They are black spots with white spots inside the black. I wonder what kind she is, because the one I caught yesterday doesn't have it. Could I we have two different kinds of Mantids in this Northeastern region of Ohio?? I wish I had a camera.

Yes it is entirely possible to have more than one variety of Mantis in the area. Their egg sacs are sold and released as pest (insect) control.

Usually the ones with the spots are the Chinese mantids and they get large up to 5" , the other common one is the Carolina mantid that stays under 3" and generally does not have the spot. Now here is the kicker...I have personally witnessed the Carolina mantid males mating with the larger Chinese mantid females so that being said and the laws of hybridization it could be hard to identify some of the green mantids in our area.
I have yet to see a Chinese mantid male on the smaller Carolina mantid female
