Well we finally added a Gopher Tortoise to our programs. This girl came to GA DNR from a vet after she was attacked by a dog. So we don't know much about her. We don't even know what part of the range she came from or how old she is. It was short notice so I don't even have a habitat built yet. So right now she is in a kiddie pool until we can build the pen this weekend.
She is going to make an excellent addition. Not only does she fit into our Indigo Program nicely, but she also illustrates how domestic animals can harm native wildlife.
And a little bonus for me from DNR. This gets to go by her pen and taken on displays. It doesn't look like it because it is new, but this is one of the heavy duty metal street signs.

Here is another shot of her. (I took some great ones outside in the grass but I don't know what happened with my camera because they were all gone.)
Here you can see some of the damage from the dog attack. There are several holes in the carapace as well as broken edges.
She is actually doing programs tomorrow and Sunday so hopefully I can get some good pictures of her.
Now we just have to name her. The wife is leaning toward "Rawhide"
