I don't think I have thanked Rich and the mods lately for the great job they do here. They put in tons of effort- for us, and I am grateful.
When I first interacted with others online way before there was a Fauna, it was just print on a screen. AOL sold their services by the hour. The dawn of the internet.
There's been a lot of change since the old days, some of it terrific, some of it horrible.
The terrific part is the information available online. From gardening to reptiles to law, it is amazing what is available to study and learn. And the thoughtful people one meets are another terrific part. I talk to people all over the world, and their knowledge and perspective gives me a different way of seeing everything.
The horrible part is the fighting, trolling, small minded dim bulbs that totally can ruin the internet experience and sometimes intentionally set out to do so. They make their area of the information highway seem like a festering swamp because of their squabbles.
I just left a moderated but actually mostly unmoderated site having to do with dogs where there were frequent cat fights between the participants over stupid stuff about each other. I hadn't been there long, maybe a week or two. I needed some dog questions answered. That turned out not to be the place. Knowledge took second place to the procedural fights and complaints, and personality conflicts that erupted in even the most innocent of threads.
Feh!
So, I am grateful to be here.
Thank you for all that you do
