finally,

i've gotten my parents to say yes to getting an iguana, i'd be able to house it properly with the huge tank, misting machine, and everything.

the only thing that concerns me is the whole taming process. when they bite, does it hurt THAT badly? speaking as a skateboarder / bmxer who gets hurt almost everyday, this wouldn't really affect me, but if it really hurts, i don't know what i'd do.

Well it does hurt a lot, an adult male during breeding season has the potential to take a finger. This can easily be solved by getting a female and handling her everyday. This is not to say that all males are agressive, you could easily get one that is calm and not aggressive. The key is the socializing with the ig, more handling= less agression.

The NYC ban only includes the 5 boroughs. Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Statin Island and Manhattan.

Look at what NYC considers dangerous and has banned!!!!

Good to know that NYC is safe from the Komodo Dragon.

Well, congrats on getting an Iguana! (felt the need to say it,teehee)

Iggys are quite aggressive, however I have never been bitten by any of mine that I own (only 1) or owned. "Twinkie" my iggy just opens its mouth and threatens, lol. =p

there's a book called "the life of your green iguana" or something to that effect. I can't remember the authors name either, (it was written by a woman though) but anyhow, buy a good book on iguanas and it will tell you about body language and lots of other things. This may help you quite a bit. Also, iguanas tend to pick favorites, so as somebody else mentioned, the more you handle it, the tamer it will be. good luck! iguanas are really rewarding pets if you take care of them right.
