Adult Male Savannah Monitor to experienced home - Tallahassee FL - $50 adoption fee

I have a foster Savannah Monitor that I am looking to rehome. This one is male (I think) and I would love to find him a good home!

Name: Reptar
Age: unknown
Sex: male

This animal was recently posted on my local craigslist by his previous owner who could not keep him any longer and needed to find a home. As a fellow reptile lover (I deal mostly with snakes) I took him in with full intention of adopting him out. Details on his care are being posted here: http://www.repticzone.com/forums/Mon...s/1407009.html

Including his tail he is nearly 4 feet long. Good eater, and he can be handled but monitors can bite very hard so this is not for a household with children.

These lizards need a lot of attention to keep them socialized, they are voracious eaters, and they need a big enclosure with lots of heat. This is a high maintenance animal for an experienced handler. Please read the following article to ensure you understand what is involved with being a home for this animal before contacting me: http://www.anapsid.org/savannah.html

Must be 18 to adopt. Adoption questionnaire will be provided to prospective new owners and a home inspection or verification of proper husbandry will be expected prior to adoption.

$50 adoption fee; however, I am willing to waive the adoption fee for the right home, and would just ask you pay shipping. Based on my work with the Reptile Rescue in Colorado (I am now in Florida) I believe that Delta Dash is the preferred method for shipping reptiles and I do have a local airport I can take Reptar to for same day shipping.

Please let me know if you are interested (email is droid9449@yahoo.com); I really just want to find this animal a good home.

4ft looks more like 3 and a few inches, or CLOSE but not 4ft and whys' he in the garage?..on the cold cement floor, hence his dark coloring..i've had mine for 3 months and from those pics i believe more about them than u apparently do. and he's VERY skinny in the last pic..do u honestly even feed him more than a mouse every week?

He lives in a "30 gallon breeder" critter cage (for now); not the garage. He has heat (undertank and a basking light). He as a great hide. He has dirt to burrow in. He has a tub for water he can fully imerge himself in to soak (and he does). He only goes outside, the VERY VERY WARM garage on the warm floor approx every other night (we live in Florida and have been under a heat wave for over two weeks, average after work temp is 90), in order to allow him to stretch his legs. Then he goes back to his warm cage with the above ammennites.

The cage is 30 inches long. He is far too big for it, and extends the full length of the tank plus a few inches.

He has a great temperament. I can handle him without any worries of getting bitten while moving him to and fro between cage and garage. Eats well too. He was thin, but is starting to fill out. Not 100% sure if he is male, trying to watch to see him evert to ensure it is male.

Please read my posts here for more details: http://www.repticzone.com/forums/Mon...s/1407009.html

If you are interested in adopting, please send me an email (droid9449@yahoo.com)

Thanks.

OK here's how to tell if its male or female, its how i came to conclusion mine's female, feed them ALOT one day then next day about 2 hours after the time u fed him put him in the bathtub *take the drain cover off it can be messy* and either use the tub as a pool or a shower, but keep ice cold water running over him until he does his dirty business, but when u see him squat his but down but push his but up with his legs lift his tail quick and you'll be able to tell what he is..just by sight..and if need be look up in google hemipenes if thats what u saw its male if not..its female. and run warm not hot or luke warm but just warm water over him her it or w/e a couple mins to get his temp back up but not suddenly, gradually change it from ice cold to nice n warm. and clean the tub after n douse it in bleach. also, what heat temps do u have for him?...mines less than 28 inches i have her basking spot at 125-135 avg and her hide is 80-92

Hello,

I measured Reptar tonight - hs is approximately 26 inches (smaller than I thought!) from tip of nose to tip of tail. I also agot a picture of his cage setup, as well as a photo of his vent.

I know he is dirty, he seems to like to be dirty though! He was digging in the dirt just before I took those pictures, and as soon as I bathe him, he is back to digging in the dirt. <shrugs>
