The owner never came forward so we keep him.

I have a wild caught tegu that I ended up taming down and now he pretty much has free roam of the house when he is out of his enclosure.. Absoultly amazing pet and smart, like probaby smarter than my dog lol.

Id say try to handle him... Use welding gloves at first and see how he reacts. Put a towel on your lap, sit down with him, not holding him down or nothing, just loosely holding him in place.. If his mouth isn't gaped and he isnt try to take tour fingers off, remove obe glive and pet him a bit... Just like with any reptile the more you handle them and they realize you arent iut to hurt them the more relaxed they are. It took about two weeks for me to be able to free handle my guy and when I first brought him home he wanted to take my head off.. I now even trust him with my wife and kids...Good luck and enjoy!! He was tame from day one he has free roam and most nights ends up in the bed with the wife and I.

Those pictures you all posted look amazing. I would love to have a Tegu in the bed. Yep, I am a nut!

I have gained a new respect for Tegus. They are with out a doubt the most intelligent
lizard I have had the pleasure of working with.

It really sounds like he used to be someone's pet. I'm surprised no one came forward for him. Perhaps he was unwanted and intentionally turned loose once he became "too big." He's luck that you found him!

He could have been wild, they are smart and I found there isn't very much that adult tegus are scared of.. And the one you caught isn't a juvenile, that and they become puppy dog tame really fast.. Talking about ending in bed with you and you wife lol here my big baby with the wife napping.. On his leash in the care, not that he ever tries to go anywhere lol but when we are taking him outside of the yard, id rather be safe than sorry.

I sort of been thinking of buying a captive bred and raising it just some compare the differences..
