Slider shell troubles

I have a red-eared slider with a great personality but I am worried about its shell. There are 4 patches of white on his shell...I look in the aquarium and you find shell pieces randomly littering the floor every once in awhile. It seems that the pieces came from where the white spots stand currently. I was wondering if this was part of the natural process of shedding or is something going on that I should know about to prevent this? Thanks!!!

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of of the white spots that you're talking about? It may make it easier for people to tell what may be going on...

thank you for answering so quickly...my apologies, however, for taking so long but have not fear! the spots went down after a little bit of TLC and some Vita-shell...thanks though!!!
