Well, after a year of paperwork and bureaucracy. And many more months of permits and arrangements. I finally have an Eastern Indigo Snake Drymarchon couperi) here in Georgia. Tony Carlisle hatched and donated this yearling girl for the first captive breeding program of Eastern Indigos in the state. I can't thank Tony enough for donating this girl.
This makes me one of only 2 or 3 private individuals in the state with permits to keep a couperi and the only one outside of Zoo Atlanta that can breed them. Of course 100% of any future offspring I produce will be donated to other educators and institutions in the state. It is time to start getting more people permits for these amazing animals.
Anyway, I have not had time to get good shots of her yet. So here are a few quick ones I took while waiting for the bug eaters to finish dinner. She is about 40" long and was born in August 2006.
it's always time for Indigos
