Tegu known fact, they build a nest.

Did you know that a Tegu is the only known lizard to build a nest? It is a true fact. They build a nest with their front feet. Working hard at pushing grass, and leaves together with their front feet. Not only a nest, but one with a two part nest chamber. The bottom layer is for incubating the eggs. The upper chamber is for the female to guard her nest. It is also said that they consume large amounts of water to mosten her clutch. The female will guard these eggs with her life.

that sounds very similar to crocs and gators . always nice to learn something new .

Thanks for the info, I always wondered why my female pushed all of the cypress to one side of the cage and why my male just kind of sat there and watched... she's not gravid or anything, but that's what she does, and at first I thought it was because she just wanted it deeper, so I poured about a foot and a half of substrate in there (probably more) and she still did the same thing... so that is probably the reason... nifty.
