I had a sadder experience a few months back, trying to breed my large female Fiji boa with four (much) smaller males (multiple males are supposed to be "the thing" with Candoia).

I'd been closely supervising, and things has been hotting up, but my fatal mistake was to leave them for the weekend. I came back to a dead female, and post-mortem exam not showing any other apparent case of death I have to presume one of them strangled her in the melee.

Won't be doing that again - in fact I am off breeding for the indefinite future... (Well I always have been, but you know what I mean...)

Sad news indeed.

Thanks for the sympathy April and everyone. I don't want to hijack Diem's thread, but I'll post the whole sorry story soon, now I'm distanced from it a bit - probably under the heading of "Breeding Candoia - how not to do it".....

I had a female dumeril attack and constrict her mate as well. Nothing major happened to him because I was able to separate them after only a few seconds. He was really shaken up so i gave him the cage for the night and secluded the female and gave her a rat to see if the attack was because she mistook him for food. Only happened once.
