Every person that I know that has had success breeding blues has cooled them in the winter.

ok then. by cooling do mean just a light brumation or full blown like they would and argentine?

Many of the blue breeders I know are in warm states like Fla and keep theirs outside year round and allow the normal winter to cool their tegus. I can't speak for how deep of a brumation they get.

I keep mine inside though. So, I pull all external heating sources (ceramic heat emitters and kane heat mats), change the light cycle to much shorter days, and stop feeding. Since they're kept indoors in a herp room, the temp drop is only about 15 degrees. But it, along with the light cycle change, is enough to make them go into "brumation". Although they all become much less active, the amount of brumation is different between each individual. Some go down and stay down all winter except maybe once a month when they come up for water. Others (like my male snow) are still somewhat active through the whole winter. So call is what you want...cycling, cooling, brumation. IMHO, I think the basic need is just for a change of seasons.

Ok cool thanks for your help. how are your eggs looking this year. and how good are you at identifying blue tegus. my male has been the target of some speculation. mainly because he is massive for a blue. 48" on the dot. but his color on his head gets very blue and here is always a blue cast over his body

It's really hard to tell much from a couple of pictures. 48" is much larger than any of my Blues. Who was the breeder he came from?

Levi, he looks to be a blue to me. Could you get some better shots of him in the sunlight?
