Nice choice, Dennis! I am glad she is ok. I pick up my shepherd in two weeks from the breeder. They are great dogs.

She is SO cute. I am glad she is ok. Do you have pet insurance? I am thinking about getting it for my dogs.

Dennis, I'm glad your pup is doing well. She looks like she will grow up to be a beautiful girl.
I can understand your frustation with the money aspect of the emergency center. Being a tech in an emergency facility I have seen this scenario one too many times. This place is after all a business and must operate as such. We have tried where people have signed promissary notes to only be screwed later. We have gotten to the point where we offer CareCredit if people don't have the funds. I know what I'm about to say next sounds cruel, but pets are a luxury item. Having pets myself, I can understand when I don't have the funds for treatments. Just because I work at such a place doesn't mean that I can special treatment. Trust me, the discounts aren't all that great. We do try to an extent to work with people. But one too many times, most people come crying and saying how their pets are their babies and then when presented with a high estimate say "it's only a dog/cat/etc" Where's our compassion? Honestly, it left me a long time ago. I have gotten sick of being told how we run a racket, we just don't care, we're all out for the money, how can we just watch animals die and not help them. I work shifts that most people don't want. I deal with cases most people don't wish to be a part of. It gets to you after a while and you just learn that it's just going to keep going on. Places like this need money to run. If we don't get it, then we need to cut back or close. I don't mean to sound like a devil's advocate or callous in any way shape or form. But this is the truth.
Human hospitals have the luxury of insurance companies to cover most of the costs. Have you ever had no medical coverage? It sucks. Those bill collectors call and harass you. I have had friends turned away because they owe a hospital money and they needed care. They wind up going to a different hospital to avoid having to pay the other place.
I just wanted to let this aspect be understood. We don't do this because we're mean. This is why I won't ever be a vet.

She is beautiful, Dennis! I never saw this original post but went through something similar. I had a cat (and overweight cat) who suddenly started having breathing problems. We had to take him to the emergency vet. The same thing happened. They wanted $3000 right then. I didn't have it available but luckily my sister fronted it for me. The cat was there overnight in an oxygen tent and into the next day. He was eventually diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and died the following day anyway. It was really amazing how uncaring the emergency vet was. Glad your pup made it through that mess!
