Genetic crossing question

I've been away from leps for a while now and so the huge strides taken in the genetics side has me stumped, just a bit. While I'm working at picking up a lot of iniformation I'm not getting all of the time I need to research as much as I'd like since I'm also catching up on ball pythons.

Basically what I'm currently needing to know is the outcome from a breeding with a Blizzard to a SHCT. Pair bred approximately 10 days ago. What can we expect in offspring and please do explain why with the genetics "in-depth" if you so desire as I'm more than willing to learn.

Thanks in advance.

Blizzard X SHCT will give you all 100% Het Blizzards (Blizzard is a recessive trait).
Out of all the babies, about 50% of them should be super hypos, with no body spots if your SHCT is a true Hine line Super Hypo (chances are good that it is). That line of Super Hypo appears to be a dominant or possibly even co dominant trait, so when you breed a SHCT to a non SHCT (such as your Blizzard), you will produce (statistically of course) half Super Hypos. The other half could be anything from Normal looking to more of a Tangerine, it really depends on the bloodlines of the parents.

OK I think I explained it ok but let me know if you have any questions. I can't imagine trying to learn about all of the leo morphs and the genetics behind them now! There are so many morphs these days, it's nothing like it was even 7 or 8 years ago.

Kelli,
Thank you. And I agree about the morphs now as compared to 7 or 8 years ago. Back then when we had a couple of small groups breeding all was fairly straight forward and easy. Now it's a total mess. Hopefully some of it will be cleared up in the next couple of years and begin to make sense once again.

One book worth picking up which has a decent morph/genetic section is Ron Tremper's The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos. There are also a few good websites with good morph/genetic descriptions...

Hope this helps

I'm happy to say that e got 2 nice eggs from this pair 2 evenings ago. We're now incubating and can hardly wait to see what hatches. Thanks again.

Congrats on your eggs and I hope that the incubation time passes quickly for you

I will be looking forward to seeing what pops out of those eggs when you post your hatchling pics
