White fungus/bacteria growing on my wood

There is a white bacteria/fungus growing on the driftwood i purchased from petsmart. How do I treat this and/or prevent this from happening again?

Do you think it could be artillery fungus? Its a type of fungus which grows on rotting wood which contains a decent amount of moisture. I would advise cleaning, boiling, and then covering it with some sort of sealant which would prevent anything from growing on the wood, but wont be toxic to the amphibians.
