Question

My family and I are going away for a week but if we like it we are going to stay an extra week. How do I keep my bearded dragon alive without hiring someone to look after him?

If you are not going to have someone watch after it, then looks like your beardie is going on vacation also!!

The thing is when you commit to having an animal you have to take care of it 24/7. I would strongly hire someone or ask a friend because by the time you come back the beardie could be dead or super thin and sick. Just ask a friend to come every day or every other day to feed it and check the temps.
Or, like Shannon said, the beardie is coming along...

Yeah, the others are right. You could get by with leaving for a day or two - but a week or two just isn't going to fly. If you can't find a friend or relative to check in on your beardie, try calling a local vet to see if they will board your dragon for a while. Make sure the vet and staff have experience with reptiles though! Otherwise, I think your dragon might get to go on his first vacation, lol.

Of course. A large kritter keeper would be great.

Beardie transport

I take mine to the vet in a pet carrier, the same one that I use for the cats. I have taken them in a rubbermaid tub...you can put one of those portable heat packs like you use for hand warmers or for aches and pains wrapped in a towel in there for warmth, just make sure the BD can move off it to regulate his/her temp.

Hello

Hello,

You can also use a cat mesh type carrier with zippers that close the front & top. They are very comfy & lush.
