Brian.... you've got it a little backwards.... follow this....
Exotic has their ad in the TRADE section.... therefore, non-verbally, offering their animal for trade.... thereby, initiating the trade.... Exotic should have shipped first....

Neil, how can you say that. Are you saying that only because it was on the trade classifieds? If not what you are saying is that any time someone posts an ad, THEY are initiating the deal, therefor the poster of the ad should ship first.

Brian.... Ok.... let's try it like this....

the seller has his ad in the python section.... basically saying.... here is what I have for sale, does anybody want to BUY it?.... you write back and say, I'll take it, so, essentially YOU are agreeing to BUY that animal from the seller.... you have to BUY it first, then the seller will send it to you....

now, we have a man offering his animal on the TRADE section, basically saying.... I have this animal that I'm willing to trade for "X".... who has what I'm looking for?? In essence, HE'S initiating the trade?? HE ships first....

Does that help at all??

Neil, I'm usually with ya, but you've lost me on this one. The one that responds to the add should ship first in my opinion.

Neil,
I am with you 100% and believe it or not, I agree with you. I was misunderstanding you the first page of this thread we took up on this site. I understood you before this last post.
NOW, my question is this. How many people who put up ads on the TRADE section look at it this way. In the experiences I have had/heard of, the person RESPONDING to the ad is the one who ships first. You follow me/ agree?
I PERSONALLY would like to see your thought become a "norm". How many times have you RESPONDED to a TRADE ad and had the POSTER send first? I just think it is less than one might think.
Unfortunately, I think we have come to a end of our little debate. Glad to see you and I were the only ones responding to this thread......LMAO

Bobby.... I agree with you, as far as the one who "initiates" the "call", "email", etc., ships first or pays first! But, not on the TRADE section.... there are different variables at work there.... the "trader" is already "initiating" the trade by putting his ad in the trade section.... he ships first....
Remember.... nobody is twisting your arm and making you ship first, even if the other person insists.... you have two choices.... you can ship first, or you can cancel the deal?? It's when you get those dollar signs in your eyes, that's when the problems arise.... it's strictly a business decision.... do you trust this person enough to believe he/she's on the up and up?? Every good con man can charm your ear off! That's their forte....

Neil, I don't do business on the internet yet but when I do I will not ship first, period. I know someone has to ship first but there just isn't anything I need bad enough to take that chance.

Maybe I'd see it differently if I were experienced with the business aspects of it, or maybe I'm just really tired, but I still can't understand why the original poster should ship first anymore in a trade than they should in a sell. Don't try to explain it to me though because my mind's about to shut down for the night anyway. Have a good night.

Neil, I must say I see where you are comming from, but you are completely wacked! Hobby standard has always been, and always will be, you reply to an ad, you ship first, wether cash or trade. For the most part, most people ARE willing to ship first in trades. Its called trust. Can't go thru life thinking everybody is out to screw you. Its just not that way. Paranoia will destroy ya!
I read all your posts on this thread, but tell me, what makes a trade different then cash? It is payment, no matter how you look at it, or frankly who initiated it. All boils down to honesty. In my situation, the seller/trader posted items I wanted. I replied, made an offer, deal was made. I shipped, he didn't, I got screwed. Cash, animals, a car, makes no difference. Payment is payment.

It truly is sad that you can no longer trust people in this hobby/business and must go to extremes to protect ourselves. What really makes it pathetic is that things were not this way just a few years ago when you could trust complete strangers. Well, times are changing, but for the worse I feel. But what is one to do? Live a sheltered life without taking chances and only deal with "known" people? That is sad. Life is full of taking chances, we all just need to live and learn. Sometimes the hard way. Just gotta post the "trash" here!

Respectivly yours,
Don
