Missing the target

This is not a big deal. It is more that I find it interesting. I purchased a pretty good amount of CH babies recently. They're all eating great on live hoppers etc. And I've got most of them switched over the f/t.

The funny thing is that these little guys can pick off a live mouse with pin point accuracy, faster than the eye can see. But if you hold a f/t mouse, 1/2 inch from their nose, and don't move it, they may miss it up to 3 times before they actually get it. They'll go high, to the left or right. Sometimes they get frustrated and back off. They get it eventually and it seems they learn after a while. The ones that have had 3 or more meal f/t don't miss as much.

The only thing I can think of is that they use their labial pits to zero in on the mouse and since I don't warm up the mouse they miss it, even if it is right in front of their nose.

I noticed that too with some of my BPs, but since I no longer feed F/T I have not thought about that. I think you may be on to something.

I've noticed that too...I have a little female who targets my hand if I don't get the rat really warm. I guess my hand is warmer than the rat.
