Just got back from west Texas

Had a great time finding many goodies.
2 black tail rattlers
1 trans pecos ratsnake
1 mojave
1 long nose snake
1 baby bull snake
several WDB
1 jack rabbit which my brother brought home to breed with his domestic.

Thought about catching a baby Javelina, saw so many and thought would be a nice addition to family farm but consided the pain from the mauling a would get from the mother Javelia.

He is going to try and breed the Jack rabbit to a domestic rabbit, and all rabbits come from their wild counter parts...I don't know if it will work, but what the heck. Yeh we did take some pics but from a conventional camera not a digital..

M Dwight, if it twitches it's nose has long ears and a cotton tail, then it's a rabbit. I don't care what science says!

Great trip!

What was the weather like?? Excellent find on the trans-pecos ratrsnake! Was it crossing the road, or under debris???? I would LOVE to see some pictures of your finds. If you can't post them here, maybe try fieldherpforum dot com , or fieldherpers dot com. Either way, sounds like you had a great time.

Later

We actually found 3 trans pecos rats in 2 trips and they were all on the road.
My friend from work is going to come to the house a take a bunch of pics so I can post them.. Check out the repticzone sometime; it is real easy to post pics there. The temps were in the high 80's and mid 60's at night...Fort davis is where we found some Mottled rock rattlers last year on the scenic road ...

Lots of domestic hares. Mainly of European stock, check out austrailia's problems and the offending breeds.

Now this is funny. Rabbits and hares are two different things. First things that come to my mind are gestation and body temp differences. Just because they look alike doesnt mean your gonna have any luck reproducing.

What are the local game laws in Virgina? Most states consider wild rabbits game animals and have special trapping regulations. Even then alive capture is further regulated in most states.

Just looked here and at the September post date:

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting...ng_seasons.asp

So trapping on private land with box traps for live rabbits: OK

But only December through Feb.

So you illegally trapped and are detaining the critter, you could be facing some fines if your caught. That and posting it here is an admission of guilt in most courts if they have physical evidence of the crime.

Just my $0.02
