I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like I disagree with everything a rescue does to ensure the safety of their pets, I just want to make clear that even though some people although can be inconsistent with some standards, doesn't mean they are bad pet owners. I feel everyone should be treated as human and make judgements on potential adopters by getting to know people and learning what they're truly like rather than having them "pass" a written exam. I feel sorry for the dogs and cats who need homes and rescue making it so hard for them

It's not about what's best for the dog, it's about "their rules" and how YOU fit into them.

Got it.

I don't get involved with rescues if I have issues with their application or policies. I'm an intelligent adult, and perfectly capable of making that decision for myself...I did it long ago, in fact.
It's great that you can see the good, despite the often self defeating approaches; and I can freely admit that not all rescues are as bad as the examples we are discussing (but it really does seem that this is becoming more the norm than the exception). It is unlikely that I will ever complete a rescue's application again - I'm quite happy getting my dogs from shelters, and I'm not opposed to buying from a breeder if I want a "purebred".

Also, when was BB recalled for Salmonella? The only recall I know of was the voluntary one for excessive Vitamin D. I know Diamond Brand and the companies affiliated had a mass recall for Salmonella.

You can't penalize someone for not being perfect pet owners, doesn't mean we're bad pet owners either. And it certainly doesn't mean we're unfit to have pets at all.
Most of the people I know who do stuff like that are some of the 'best' people I know. They know their pets, the're consistent with their health and needs and will be the first to tell what their pet can and can't eat.

And unless your feeding timothy hay treats, you'd be surprised how many small animal treats and bird treats ingredients are the same
Well you know that some rescues dont deny you completely if you only send in one application? If your denied, some rescues discuss what they find wrong with your application and hopefully the both of you can fix it. I agree that giving bad treats to your pets every once in a while isnt going to kill them, but somebody who has experience with the species and is interested in adopting the animal wont put that on an application to adopt an animal! Again, there is no way the rescue will find a perfect match for their animals, but it doesnt hurt to try! I dont understand why people fight with rescues think its their god given right to adopt an animal because its not, some people are not meant to own animals, and the horror stories (and experiences) ive encountered only prove this. We are all in the same boat here, we are all trying to find good homes for pets both adopters and rescuers. I am aware of the ingredients found in small animal treats and bird treats btw, and personally ive never felt the impulse to feed that to my personal birds because i dont agree with that dietary choice for my animals (and my vet doesnt either ).

Dogs can't live just on meat it lacks nutrition found in other ingredients in dog food.
You can't penalize a dog food because of an incident that happened years ago, no matter what you feed there will always be a risk of any dog food becoming tainted and recalled again.
I can see the license thing for exotics, but not cats and dogs.
I believe border collies are legal everywhere. So why do they need a drivers license?

Ande the vet records, again, if someone didn't take their pet consistantly to a vet for check ups or wasn't up to date on shots, are they unsuited to adopt? Even if their dogs were treated and medicated when they were sick?
There is a vet near me who is highly rated and has been around for over 30+ years. I took my kitten to him and he said that most yearly shots aren't nessecary. And explained about the pet's immunity system and how it works and it was great to meet a vet who was truly honest rather then someone telling me to give my dog or cat a bunch of shots they probably didn't need. How would that look on my adoption application? My pets do
See a vet regularly, sometimes I have to skip yearly appointments due to a fluctuating budget, in a section I feel something is wrong with my pets they are in a vet's office immedietly, but things like don't seem to matter or not good enough to the eyes of a rescue
I would like to find the article where you found the info on wellness, my vet carries it and swears by it so im concerned about that info, plus im in contact with wellness reps and i can find out that way too. Some dog breeds (pit bulls) are restricted in certain states and its the rescues responsibility to ensure this doesnt happen. I do not agree with what happened to you and the rescue with the border collie but these standards are set for a reason. I work a veterinarians office and yes i do believe that some vaccines are suited best for some clients only, but that doesnt mean rabies, feline/canine distemper vaccines shouldnt be!

Got it.
WHY wouldnt the rescuers rules not be whats best for the animal?? I understand some rescues have outrageous demands, but some people abide by them, THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE TO ADOPT FROM THEM, FIND ANOTHER RESCUE THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!

That statement right there is almost an oxymoron, a rescue that doesnt care about whats best for the dog, are you serious?

how about my job, is that enough? I worked at petsmart for 2 1/2 years and in that time frame I've worked there it got recalled 3 times. A few months ago it was the one of the puppy formulas.
