Exclamation Feeding help?

Ok pros, what are some tips or advice on transferring a corn snake over from live mice to f/t pinkie mice?

We have a young one that refuses to touch a f/t pinkie! I've been told by many that you can work with them and switch them over to f/t but didn't give me any steps on how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Have you tried following a live one with a f/t one? A lot of times when they are eating they go into a "eating mode" (for lack of a better term) and if there is a second prey item available they may very well take it live or not.

You could try my patented "bitch slap" method also (mainly used for problem feeders brought to me over the years). It is just how it sounds, paint brush the pinkie across the snakes nose and it'll get mad and strike and most of the time eat. You may have to try this a few times as it may spit it out but with a few more slaps it'll get irked again and bite again.

LMAO see Dave these are moments I was talking about when you crack me up.. Ok so Imma go "b*tch slap" my tiny corn now hehe.. Oh my!

But really, I have tried the "bump it on the nose" with the pinkie trick, I really don't want to slap it and have it upset and biting I like the calm more tame snakes lol (don't want him pissed or afraid of me either)

I will try the first tip though see if it will work first, I just wasn't sure if it would eat 2 pinkies in one feeding like that in a row?! Will def. try it and see.

I did open it's mouth the other day put in a f/t pinkie twice and both times it spit it out.

Thanks for the help DAND and the giggle..

  1. Leave Snake with Food Item Overnight
  2. Braining
  3. Scenting with Anole
  4. Scenting with House Gecko
  5. Scenting with Chicken Broth
  6. Washing with a Mild Dish Detergent (Removes scent)
  7. Tease Feeding (What DAND described)

None of these methods will be successful if you give in to feeding the snake live after only one or two weeks of trying.

Just noticed this...

You should absolutely not be attempting to force feed a snake that's already eating on its own (in fact, I don't recommend force feeding at all). You're putting unneeded stress on the poor thing and risking the snake never eating again.

Naa only tired it twice "and did it very carefully, not to hurt her". I knew after the second time she spit it out at me, that it wasn't gonna happen that way. I was also told by many people to syringe feed it or get a "pinkie pump" but wasn't doing that either.

Anyway took Dave's advice (NOT the b*tch slap thing) lol but I gave it a live one, then slipped in the f/t (after I rubbed it on a live mouse) and WAM she nailed it right away too. So she is eating now thank god and I'm alot more at ease and less worried about her. She seems to be a happy camper.

And I tried 3 of your methods Stephanie!

And it wasn't one or two weeks I'd been trying everything for over a month of her not eating here. I'll keep doing it this way till she starts taking the f/t on her own..

But we are on our way now, thanks guys!

Thanks
Amanda

Was just doing what I was told to try by others. And I didn't force her really just set it in her mouth hoping she would eat it. I didn't like shove or cram in down her throat or anything lol.. However no harm done she is eating now, thanks..
