Translucent Traits?

We are looking into the world of translucent dragons and have some questions that we can't seam to answer. It appears that the translucent trait is in the HypoPastel line. What is a Pastel? (Is it a dragon that has light, soft-hued colors?) A Hypo is a dragon that doesn't have as much dark as others and has clear nails. So what would a HypoPastel be? (Perhaps a dragon that has soft-hued colors and clear nails??)

Also, people have said that some baby translucents are born with solid black or blue eyes (which is it?) and others are born with normal eyes that later change into solid colored ones. We thought that solid black eyes was a trait that Leucistics solely portrayed . . . ? Some people have adult dragons that stay see-through thier whole life while other's turn a silvery color. Does that mean that some are "more" translucent than others?

Hi, transluscents are completely different than hypopastels. If anything, they are the complete opposite. Hypopastels have a lot of white, and the transluscents lack it. The blue eye is something that is carried along with the transluscent gene. If you raise transluscents with low uv, their eyes look really dark almost black. If you put them in the sunlight, or under high uv bulbs the eyes will be a navy blue color. Transluscents are a variable recessive trait. They come in so many variations, I don't know where to start. There are trans that hatch with blue eyes and have little or no white. Others eyes change and loose white as they mature. Everything is different and unique. Josh

I misread what you wrote. Most of the trans that are available were started from 2 out of 4 individuals that Sandfire bought at a german reptile show. Josh

If we were to buy a translucent, does it need special care? Example, low UV and less heat? We really like the way they look - they are so different!! Do you know where we would be able to purchase 1 or 2? We haven't seen anyone selling them on any of the sites.

They are the same care as a regular dragon. Just avoid the high uv compact fluorescents, they will blister these guys, and fry their eyeballs. I use reptisun 10.0 with no problems, and even raised some outdoors in natural sun with no problems in the past. Any questions feel free to ask. I have been working with these guys since they came in, and have a ton of info. Thanks, Josh
