Play sand

Does anybody here use play sand as substrate and if so, how do you dry it out.

I use playsand for mine. As for drying it out, I'm not sure what you mean? It's pretty dry to begin with. Beardies need a pretty dry environment, so a water bowl isn't needed, therefore, there will be no water spilling. The occassional misting is ok, but no need to soak them down. When mine gets his salad at night, I mist the salad down to keep it from drying out since he stays at about 100 degrees.

If you can locate JNSDragons on here, they are wonderful people. Very knowledgable, and always willing to help out. If you need anything else, feel free to ask.

if its damp, you can bake the sand in the oven at 325-350 degrees. It should dry it out enough to be used.

You didn't use a hair dryer did you? I have had those weeks too, don't feel bad.

I use the play sand all of the time for beardie setups. I just put the sand in the tanks, turn on the lights to heat things up and stir the sand from time to time. Doesn't take it long to dry out. I never have received a shipment of really wet sand.

I have used play sand for beardies for years. One way to dry damp sand is to bake it at about 250°F. Finding a pan that will hold a bunch of sand is up to you though :P

We use playground sand as well.

Loews and Home Depot sell it in 50 pound bags, usually near the redi-mix cement.
