Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Growth Rate of Beardies
I am trying my hardest to find a bearded dragon and currently I have a 20 gallon tank...temporary. I was wondering, however, how long a 20 gallon tank would be suitable for a baby beardie until I have to get at least a 40?

3-4 months
I think you might be able to get 3-4 months out of a 20 gallon. Depending on the dragon's size maybe slightly longer but at 4 months in most cases that would be crowded. A smaller cage is actually better for them early on until they get used to chasing down crickets and more settled into being a captive animal. While a 40 gallon would be okay for an adult it would be the minumum size you would want to use. A female would do better in one that small over a male as my males seem to utilize their vailable space a little more.

Another thing to consider is the cost of lighting. The basking and UV setup is going to be considerably different in a 20 G compared to a 40 G.
It might be wisest to be patient and purchase the 40 G and all the appropriate lights and fixtures. Empty tank syndrome is tough to overcome, but it might be for the best for the health of your future family member...

maybe u can get a sweet deal like me i went to a fish store that was going out of buissness and got a 40 breeder tank for 20 bucks!
