Almost 10 years...

Hi everyone.

My parents got me a leopard tortoise for my 5th birthday, so she's almost 10. She looks healthy enough but I have to be sure. I got into reptiles recently, so I can't tell properly if she is in good condition. I shall post pics tomorrow. She has a decently sized tank, I know that for sure, and we let her out in the garden every day for most of the day, when the weather is decent. Otherwise we let her around the house.

Her diet consists of kale and fruits and veg. She loves tomatoes and baby corn. She refuses to drink from her water bowl so that's why the watery fruits. Otherwise she probably eats grass and stuff when she's outside. I'll try to get some tymothy hay in the winter.

Her heat source is a 60 watt lamp and she's about 2 inches under it when basking. I don't know the Temps as there is no mean of measuring them. We turn off the heat at night. It doesn't get too cold.

Anything else I should add? I'm probably able to find one photo now...

That photo is of her about a year ago
Thanks!

You seem to have done very well so far Metodej, she must be pretty healthy to have made it through 10 years so far! Are you looking for advice because something is changing?

No, I always thought I was doing something wrong...
I know the temperature is a bit too hot as she is about an inch under the light which is 60 watts. I'm getting a weaker bulb. I was concerned about her pyramiding and if it is serious, (I'll post some pics)
I don't know anyone who can judge her health.

MonBon, your Leopard looks nice and healthy. Don't worry about the pyramiding. First, it's not that bad. She has a lovely shell in fact. Secondly, there not much you can do about it at this stage. She will always have the "bumps" that are there. Increasing the humidity in her enclosure may help smooth out her new growth, but at this stage it will be so slow that it make take years to notice if you're making a difference. Great job so far, try to cut back on tomatoes and fruits. Not good for leopards. Just because she loves them doesn't mean they're good for her. More grasses and greens. Keep up the good work.
